Flickr is an online digital photo sharing site, which has become a great place for professional photographers to showcase their work.

If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s a step-by-step guide to uploading your digital photos on Flickr.

(Note: This describes the basic steps to upload your pictures in Flickr, without using the uploader tools for PC and Mac.)

1. Get a Flickr account

If you already have a Yahoo! account, then all you need to do is sign in using your Yahoo! ID and password.

2. From your flickr homepage, click on the “Upload Photos & Video” button.

3. Click on “Choose photos and videos”

4. Select the file you want to upload. You upload more than one picture, by clicking “Add More”

5. Choose the privacy settings you want (private or public). Then click the “Upload Photos and Videos” button.

6. A progress bar will let you know how the upload is going. When it’s done, you will see, “Finished! Next: add a description, perhaps? Click on the link if you’d like to add a description.

7. From this window, you can do several things: add a description, add tags, save the photo to a set (or create a new set, if you like). You can also change the privacy settings of the picture.

8. If you’re satisfied with everything, click on “Save“. You can go back and change any of the settings, and even delete and reorganize photos later.

Wasn’t that easy? Now you can show off your best photos to the world. You could even have your photos used in websites and other materials – that is, if you want them to.

By the end of this post, you will realize how easy it is to take your pictures and make them into a movie.

On our last trip to Scotland, we spent many hours strolling down Buchanan Street, Glasgow’s most popular shopping avenue. Situated in the heart of the city, more than 30 million people visit each year.

Why? Because the wide variety of trends, goods and services that are offered to local people and tourists alike, makes it the premier shopping street of the city.

Since 1978, Buchanan street is closed to automobile circulation, and stretches itself between St Enoch Centre and Buchanan subway entrances which makes it easily accessible.

What impressed me the most, was the lighting at night! A cool blue tone illuminates the street and gives the crowded place a very unique atmosphere. We took a lot of pictures both in day time and at night.

To share these wonderful moments with my friends and family, I decided to make a selection from all the photographs we took and to insert them into Windows Movie Maker which is a movie making software installed on your computer when you buy a PC.

I then added a small narrative text in the timeline, along with some music. Once I fitted everything together, I clicked on “Publish Your Film” and same was saved to a file on my hard disk with a .wmv extension.

Next, I uploaded the video on our “Everything Scotland” blog at http://www.scotiana.com  Et voilà!

Now….did I get you thinking?  Don’t just let your pictures sitting on your hard disk, instead, drag them into Windows Movie Maker and have fun making a movie out of them. Just like I did.

Since digital photography’s emergence, nothing hold us back anymore to taking as many pictures as we want with our cameras.

The shot is not good? Don’t like it? Blurry? Underexposed? Overexposed? Only one click and the photo is deleted at no extra cost.

But still, many many more find way to sit on our hard disk after being viewed only once or twice.

In order to experience the site, I signed up today under the screen name KidKodak-Janice and to my big surprise, only five minutes later, my first photo was uploaded, tagged and viewable by the whole wide world.

How much easier can it be ?

If you prefer to keep your portfolio entirely, or partially private, you can set it up that way as well. I really like the tagging feature. It makes research of topic so much more agreable and it is now easier to find photos based on specific interests.
