How to Break Free and Step Boldly Into Action
Fear is the invisible wall that stands between us and our next big breakthrough.

Fear is an invisible wall…
This week, GrowthDay members tackled the challenge of embracing boldness, asking for help, and stepping into the arena of life, work, and personal growth.
Here are some key takeaways from this inspiring discussion.
1. Action Over Fear. Just Do the Thing!
Many of us spend too much time overthinking, preparing, and waiting for the “right moment.” But as Lauren Hubbard shared, “Sometimes you have to stop buying all the gear and courses and just post the thing.”
The truth? Fear loses its power the moment you take action.
John Hajdukiewicz reminded us, “Boldness isn’t about feeling ready, it’s about stepping in before you feel ready.”
How to Apply This:
- Start the project, even if it’s messy.
- Post that content you’ve been overthinking.
- Make the call you’ve been avoiding.
- Put yourself out there and iterate as you go.
2. Ask for Help. It’s a Strength, Not a Weakness
One of the biggest realizations from this week’s discussion was that not asking for help is actually a choice to struggle. Cari Foerster put it bluntly: “Not asking for help is choosing to suffer!”
So many of us try to figure things out alone, thinking that struggling in silence is a badge of honor. But, as Jean Heroe pointed out, “The less I ask for help, the more I prolong my suffering.”
How to Apply This:
- Reach out to a mentor or peer for guidance.
- Create a support system like Susan Nicholson, who built an accountability group with colleagues.
- Admit when you’re stuck and invite collaboration.
3. Share Your Struggles. Vulnerability is Power
Fear thrives in isolation. When we hold in our struggles, they grow bigger in our minds. But when we share them, they lose their grip on us.
As Amanda Trojan said, “Fear thrives in silence and isolation. When I started asking for help and sharing my struggles, others began to learn from me too.”
How to Apply This:
- Share what you’re going through with a trusted friend or online community.
- Journal your fears to release them from your mind.
- Be real on social media, like Kelly Keller, who shared her struggles and was amazed at the positive responses.
4. Get in the Arena. Even If You’re Scared
GrowthDay members kept coming back to the metaphor of stepping into the arena, showing up even when it’s uncomfortable.
Thomas Freeman shared, “Thinking, preparing, and learning are great, but until you take action, it’s an open loop. Take the action, close the loop!”
Dan Johnson reminded us that every Monday, every week, every month is a fresh opportunity to “throw yourself into the arena.”
How to Apply This:
- Stop waiting. Start before you’re ready.
- Take on new challenges, even if they intimidate you.
- Embrace discomfort as a sign of growth.
5. Strive Bolder. Dream Bigger, Take Bigger Steps.
Rebecca Johnson encouraged us to “Focus on striving BOLDER. Do the THING!”
This isn’t about reckless ambition; it’s about recognizing that you’re capable of more than you believe.
Steve DeVane shared, “I resonate with the encouragement to be more ambitious. I have settled for less for too long.”
How to Apply This:
- Say YES to opportunities that stretch you.
- Stop playing small. Set a goal that excites and scares you.
- Remind yourself daily that fear is temporary, but regret lasts forever.
Fear is a Season, Not a Life Sentence
Fear isn’t something to be eradicated. It’s a normal part of growth.
Meghan beautifully summarized this: “Willingly take on the struggle knowing it is a season and my why.”
This week, let’s commit to doing one bold thing each day. No more waiting. No more excuses. No more fear.
